For former Blue Bulls and Springbok rugby star Pierre Spies, life after rugby is anything but quiet. Rather than settling for retirement away from the public eye, Spies is once again courting the spotlight in an effort to make a real and lasting difference in people's lives.

A deeply committed Christian, Spies is currently studying theology and putting his faith to good use as a highly sought-after motivational speaker and life coach, taking to stages to share his own brand of wisdom in an effort to inspire others.

His talks examine the role belief plays in achieving life goals and the strength that faith provides when used as a foundation for change. They also focus on positivity and how good old-fashioned values and ethics reinforce everything we do in life, whether on the sports field, in the boardroom or at home with family.

"It's amazing to see how what I have learned on my life's journey thus far can have a positive impact on the corporate landscape," says Spies. "The fact that I can share my story and the experiences that have moulded me into the man I am today and use them to help others reach their life goals, change their mindsets and inspire team spirit is a blessing, and one I am eternally grateful for," he adds. "It's a gift I am compelled to pay forward."

Ever self-effacing, Spies effortlessly leads by example in his talks, touching on the importance of family, friends and unconditional love, describing what it is to be a husband, a son, a brother and a father. "Sharing love within a home is the best part of being a husband and father," says Spies. "Seeing yourself reflected in your children is an absolute privilege, but also a huge responsibility as you are instrumental in building the next generation."

Through his motivational speaking and life coaching engagements, Spies hopes to be an agent of change for thousands of people. He regards his new career as an opportunity to be of service and revels in the possibilities life holds. "It's about realising your true potential and changing lives for the better," he says. "If I can inspire others to see themselves and the world around them in a new and better light, then I am fulfilling my own potential and leaving a lasting legacy that is so much more than numbers on a scoreboard," he adds.
