Makhamisa Foods, an entrepreneur incubated at The Innovation Hubs’s Biopark@Gauteng facility, will be launching a range of African condiments which have been described as a taste of Africa, made by African hands and suited for a distinctly African palate, to be hosted on 26 January 2017 at the Wine Bar, 7165 Vilakazi Street in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Makhamisa Foods, owned by Mr. Terence Pokane Leluma, promises consumers a blend of flavours reminiscent of African heritage. The sauces range from pickled vegetables mild, pickled vegetables, hot jalapeno sauce and mild jalapeno sauce, and are distributed at buy and braai outlets, pubs and restaurants (Shisanyamas) in Soweto, Wynberg, Alexandra, Mamelodi, Evaton and Sebokeng. In the future, the company plans to expand its retail reach beyond the shores of South Africa, by supplying retailers both in and out of South Africa.

As an agency of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, which focuses on the development of high growth business, The Innovation Hub and its incubation programme BioPark@Gauteng have supported Makhamisa through the development of their products. During incubation Makhamisa Foods has received and continues to receive support in the form of enterprise development as well as skills development, with service offerings such as intellectual property advisory; guidance from a commercialization specialist; individual mentorship; and access to various developmental workshops to name but a few. Alongside support from The Innovation Hub, Makhamisa also receives support from the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and is in partnership with Senhor Calisto’s Portuguese Chicken restaurant franchise.
“Makhamisa Foods is one of many success stories to come from The Innovation Hub’s incubation programmes. We are really proud of their achievements and trust that the products will be well received by South Africans and global markets at large.” - Mr McLean Sibanda, CEO of The Innovation Hub
